Customs formalities
By the time when we publish this article concerning the customs formalities, the European and North-American citizens (United States and Canada) do not need visa to come to Peru. It is however recommended to inform oneself about possible changes of regulations in the Peruvian Consulates or Embassies of your country before travelling. In case you would be pushed back at the border within a voyage carried out by Puka Nina Peru, we would not be blamed.
After your arrival at the country, you must be provided with a valid passport (with a 6 months margin before the scratch date). The migratory authorities provide a document to be filled, which will be tamponed by the civil servant of "Migraciones". In the same way, a stamp will be placed on the passport.
You have to keep this paper carefully, because it will be required at the time of the exit of the country. It is advised to fasten it with the passport to avoid useless losses.
As well on the filled out document as on the passport the dates of entry and the validity of the visa are reproduced, generally three months for Europeans and the citizens of North America.
The limiting date of exit of the territory must be respected but if you want it, in the event of prolonged stay, you can make the request for extension of visa near any office of Migraciones of the country. In the event of accidental expiry of the visa, you have to present yourself as soon as possible at the nearest office of Migraciones to regularize your situation. These organizations exist in all the big cities and all the frontier stations.
Pay attention to check always that the Customs Agent is not mistaken in the dates at the time to tampon the passport, you will avoid tedious problems during the stay or at the time of the exit of the country.
