¿When to come?

Actually there is no particular season to come to Peru, you can arrive at any moment of the year. Don’t forget that the seasons of the southern hemisphere are the opposite of those of the northern hemisphere. The country is located in the tropics and has completely different ambient conditions (Coast, Andes and Amazonian Forest) which create tens of microclimates, and although there are not in fact well defined seasons in Peru, there are more favourable periods for travelling.

We can summarize the climatic conditions like this:

  • Coast: winter from May to November, summer from December to April
  • * Andes: dry and cold season from May to November, wet and relatively heat season from December to April
  • Amazonia: dry and hot season from May to November, wet and hot rain season from December to April.

The period to choose to travel depends in fact on the places you want to visit.

If you want to travel on the coast in particular, the proper thing to do is to privilege the coastal summer (December to April) where the sky is cleared from the garua, a kind of drizzle which covers the sky a good part of the year.

The best period to visit the Andes is during the dry and cold season (from May to November), with a preference for October and May: in May, it does not rain any more and the weather is not cold yet, in October, the weather is not cold any more and it does not rain yet...

On the other hand the principal festivals with regard to the south are in July and June...
Concerning Amazonia, it is better to avoid going there in raining period, it is really a relatively dangerous period because of the landslides.
