No drugs!

Tourism has sometimes other aims unfortunately that the attraction of the landscapes and culture... there is also the attraction of drug and sex... 

Peru is indeed the first producer of coca leaf (which was before a whole medicinal plant) but if it is not the first producer of cocaine, it produces nevertheless someone of the first quality, according to opinions of the experts... 

It is thus not fortuitous that certain tourists decide to bind pleasure and profit and to place a part of their budget in the purchase of cocaine and marihuana for their personal consumption.

But attention: The infringements with the law on the narcotics are sanctioned by heavy prison sentences.

The difference is hardly made between marketing and consumption... and the conditions of detention, in Peru, are extremely hard. 

It is strongly recommended in any case not to accept the transport of packages given by unknown persons, in particular in the coach stations and airports. It is lately rather common to see the police force calling on these famous "burriers", who are often tourists, tempted by juicy premiums, and who agree to transfer onto them or in their bags a few kilos of narcotics, thinking of being able to fool without problems the authorities...
